It may be the architecture of the buildings or the bustle of the street or maybe it could be the fact that in every corner, there may be someone doing something weird or wonderful.

Or perhaps it's because of snog nearby...

On that subject of snogs, the Christmas tree at Covent Garden is an unusual, unique and very special interactive art exhibit and we all love that. In short, the tree has lights that shine when a couple underneath some mistletoe kiss. My mother just had to have a go...
If you're in Covent Garden, have a go, it's for charity!captincrochttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843772788115330713noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5036809974764215030.post-70423207828621547142010-11-13T12:59:00.001+00:002010-11-13T13:04:19.611+00:00My take on #TwitterJokeTrialSo this week, we learn that posting something on Twitter is like shouting it out load where you are tweeting from. Or that nothing is a joke unless it's written by somebody employed to it. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, in short, you can get arrested for joking on twitter. What's most worrying about this is that this is giving out a message that whatever you say must be serious, because when I tell somebody I'm going 'to kill them', I'm totally threatening to murder them. No doubt about it. Anyone with a little common sense would call this a joke so why, just because the words 'blow up' are mentioned, is it any different?

Furthermore, what if Chambers was a comedian? Would it be more of a joke? I'd say this whole would have been less of an issue and that, my friends, doesn't make any sense. Simply because he isn't employed to makes jokes doesn't mean he can't make jokes which, in fairness, is nothing compared to what horrors come from Frankie Boyle's mouth. Last time I checked, we could all be arrested for the same things regardless of what your job is.

Funniest of all this nonsense; If people retweeted his post, then it wouldn't be a problem right. I mean, people are reposting his original joke with the hashtag #IAm Spartacus so when are the police going to arrest them all. Or is it different now? Is it a joke now but when Chambers said it there was a chance that people could die?

Please, don't be so stupid.

EDIT: After reading this article, the judge of his appeal had said "Any ordinary person reading this would see it in that way and be alarmed." This is a shot I took to the Angel of the North:

This kind of portrayal came about from what the artist, Antony Gormley had said about the piece:

"People are always asking, why an angel? The only response I can give is that no-one has ever seen one and we need to keep imagining them."
I see angels as the type of creatures which will come up and eat you up for dinner. My thoughts on an evil angel are probably not unique but I can say that I agree with Gormley and say that people should continue to imagine the angel and the images that they can make.
Namely Europop..

But about a month ago I discovered the Swedish Synthpop band Page (pronounced "Pag") which I hadn't had thought was quite popular among Swedes but I was quite wrong finding two videos of TV performances and I had been listening to this song over and over again!
But I've grown to hate the word art. I believe it's a word that is far to general in the definition. Art is always defined as a creative way to show imagination and perhaps to convey a message.

This is art!

This is art...?

Recently, art is being defined by people as using paint and a cavas to picture something with only a few recognising photography, literature, music and even digital painting. As a photographer I'm angry and a bit worried about this change in definition. I'm no longer considered an artist anymore and I think this causes for irrational behaviour:

Jemma: "Right, Andy. If something isn't real, what is it? Real?"
[After somebody took empty chairs] Jemma: "I'm off to get them chairs back"
Me: "Why? We don't need them"
Firstly, the price of it is a quite reasonable 80p each and I have to say that it's quite reasonable for what I seem to think as a luxury dessert.

Aesthetics
4/5
This has to be the prettiest cake I've ever eaten and I love the little edible daisy which it has been garnished with. The frosting in some places was a little bit messy and uneven where some parts hadn't even been frosted but there is plenty to go round.

Taste
3/5
It didn't really have much of cake taste and more of a sugary lemon taste from the frosting which made up most of the cake. It did have the tangy taste you would expect from a lemon flavour with a good mesure of sweet to balance it out and normally these two don't really go well together but it seems to do a great job. I was also disappointed with the daisy made with the wretched edible paper. It's defiantly one to have with tea.

Texture
4/5
The cake was moist and very easy and the frosting didn't seem to gloop everywhere when bitten into like some cupcakes I've tasted before. The cake was so moist, however it nearly melted in my mouth which made you taste more of the frosting then the base of the cake which was a bit disappointing.

Overall
13/15
It's a great cake to have with a lunch or with afternoon tea but it's defiantly not one to go for if you're not fond of lemon or sugary frostings but it's a great looker and ASDA have done a great job at making a great lemon cupcake.captincrochttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843772788115330713noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5036809974764215030.post-9623607921655704142010-09-29T20:50:00.002+01:002010-09-29T21:13:05.377+01:00My thoughts on YouTube in the mainstream mediaFor one, I'm no film maker and I couldn't possibly manage to create any kind of entertaining length of video because of my lack of patience. But I watch a lot of content from the people who are lucky enough to be very talented in the field of media with any kind of education or not and I praise anyone who tries it knowing that it's something I couldn't do. I often hear film makers on YouTube saying how 'modern media' should start to consider the amazing talen which exists on the internet and I support whoever seems to get a job at and kind of television network. However I cannot fully support it for a couple of reasons:

YouTube is already modern media: Many times have I heard walking around schools about conversations on what they see on YouTube. Hell, I've even suggested a couple of members to my friends in some conversations so I have no idea what these people are meaning when they are already part of an emerging media which is obviously being talked about and making it better overall.

They could lose their touch: When you have producers and people advising them running around them, I know that I would freak out. These people on YouTube do what TV networks do with many people and they have found ways to getting to work with what they have and they get along fine.

The lacking community: One of the amazing things about YouTube is the community which exists on it and offers a kind of fanbase and you can kind of make yourself famous, so to speak. Also the new addition of YouTube Moderator kinda helps. Moving onto a TV network and you lose that community of shared ideas and views on whatever the video was about and I think these 'YouTubers' (a phrase I absolutely hate...) will start to see the effects that the community has.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Michael Buckley strutting his stuff all over the American TV networks but I feel that the loss of the community isn't really worth the effort of doing TV. In essence, I would prefer to see my Shane Dawson fix on the web, thanks..
captincrochttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843772788115330713noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5036809974764215030.post-19760461975096481572010-09-25T14:32:00.002+01:002010-09-25T14:47:52.371+01:00Sesame Street/Katy Perry OpinionsIt seems that I'm right in saying that the Sesame Street/Katy Perry fiasco is quite amusing and quite silly but this was from a point of view of a teenager which Sesame Street doesn't aim it's audience at me. So I thought I'd enlist the help of parent blogger, Nickie at Typecast whom I've worked with many a times and I've asked for her opinions on the matter which she made some interesting points about the video:

"IMHO they should have made her wear a lightly less risqué top for a children's programme but that is exactly how she appears in her "suitable for children" pop videos. If she was dressed differently then maybe the young audience wouldn't have recognised her."
She later goes on to say:

"If PBS hadn't pulled the episode then it would have blown over within two days.

Now that they have, (and it is still available for viewing on YouTube) it is still being spoken about. In effect they have generated more media coverage for themselves AND Katy Perry, who just happens to have a new single out."

I can totally see what she means and I agree completly. Personally, I don't know why PBS didn't see this coming before even considering to book Katy Perry. Perhaps popular musicians are starting to become less kid-friendly then they were ten years ago (Lady Gaga and KeSha instantly spring to mind) and I guess Sesame Street are still adjusting to that.

1. This is my guard lion which, for the moment, is suspended from a lanyard given to my aunt on her trip to Canada. Every desk should have one.

2. Mail and stuff of interest all held in a neat letter separator thing. A couple of things you'll find there are WH Smith vouchers to be redeemed, a Blue Jays decal and the Sunday Times' Magazine profile on Lady Gaga. And a cable for something.

3. My notebook. It's almost never used daily but I find it useful to note down photography shoots which make up most of my daily thoughts. Note how it's never useful stuff, like chemical symbols for example.

4. My computer of choice (and a damn fine one too); Apple MacBook. I am forever using this when I'm bored or when I want to talk to friends on the internet and it's not that bad at it. Laptops are far more superior in my humble opinion.

5. Coffee. It's a must. This tumbler however was designed by Tri-costal Designs and I love it's typographic design.

6. BlackBerry and iPod. They're great buddies and surprisingly still going strong after years of abuse.

7. Notepads, stickynotes and other bits and bobs. Mainly used to keep notes to myself and for people to give me notes too. I'm such a traditionalist.

8. Various pens of various colours. I looooove my pens particularly the red one.
But I thought more carefully; Water can be a great thing to photograph and it could be a lovely way of showing how unpredictable the world is. This feature will show the great photos I've seen this week which you drench your mind with.. ugh:

Nobody is and nobody can be. We're all weird in our own way. For example, I'm known for being much more weirder than my friends having a great interest in the technology and how it works; Something my friends know little about. I've been thinking, I'm quite interested in a couple of things which is not really common and granted and I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in this things:

Interior Design

I love interior design and how people design the way rooms lock and feel; places where people work in particular and I'm a massive fan of people who take how their desk looks seriously. It's one of the weirdest thing I've found myself to be an enthusiast mainly because of how a messy person I am. Rarely do I find myself cleaning or clearing things away and I'm oh-so lazy yet I love a clean, organised desk. wtf?

Sweden

I have some kind of unhealthy liking to Sweden and Swedish culture. At the moment, I'm trying my best to learn Svenska and I'm also finding myself watching SVT (Sweden's BBC) and I'm also finding myself listening to Sveriges Radio which I'm listening to now.

LAND AV SVENSKARNA

I don't know what they're saying.. Something about the election?!

The London Underground

Have I mentioned that my favourite mode of transport is little under 100 miles away from me? No, well that's why I always see it as a novelty. I love the company culture that TFL puts into the London Underground and I guess that's another reason why I love it so. Also it's a very convient way of travel.
captincrochttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843772788115330713noreply@blogger.com1Home53.1439172 -1.199101953.0924352 -1.3158314 53.1953992 -1.0823724000000001tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5036809974764215030.post-52299105565586818192010-09-17T21:04:00.002+01:002010-09-17T21:07:22.133+01:00The Gallery: A SmileMy brother has a funny smile. It amazingly does not exist. I could have taken another one where he did smile but that is quite hard to do so I settled for a photo which I perceive to be my absolute favourite portrait I have taken. I touched it up and of course, I changed the colour settings a bit and Joe seems to like this picture a good bit

This was taken in Cardiff next to the water feature outside the Millenium Centre. Pretty, isn't it?
Isn't it?!
Not only this, but uploading these said notes. I took a couple today which I will have to get around to quite soon and I will be sure to post them when I have taken these photos.

Anyway, I'll be trying to make a habit of taking this pictures with my phone as a visual reminder of things I find lovely and forgetful.

So, I said I was going to keep this as a weekly thing but I guess that idea has gone out the window completely so I'm going to try and do it as much as I can. For you see, I've started writing this on Wednesday (and finished on Thursday) and this is more of a random selection of photographs I have picked out after picking my theme a couple minutes of thinking (and I would love you to suggest a couple) Anywho, here we go:
Lovely to see that this whole 9/11 Qur'an fiasco is no behind us and the day went peacefully along, I guess. While on the subject, I would like ya'll to go check out the photographs the BBC took throughout the day; some of them are magnificent.

Anyway, have a good evening.captincrochttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843772788115330713noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5036809974764215030.post-19934362525371809262010-09-06T17:29:00.000+01:002010-09-06T17:29:12.368+01:00The Gallery: Back to SchoolIncidently, as I post this, it is one day before I have to be back into school for another two years; Yippie! For those wondering, I have chosen to take a diploma in digital applications whilst taking up physics too and I think you would agree that if you know me well that they are quite good choices. So, my picture, I guess:
These were both taken last night because annoyingly, true artistic instinct comes to me when I'm ready to go to sleep. but anyway, this is the word 'Learn' in many languages and in regular fashion, I would like you people to guess what languages are there. A couple are obvious and a couple are not so obvious.
Kinda. See, we had quite large expectations of Cardiff being all much like London from watching too much of BBC's quality shows and the fact it was a capital city. It seemed very anti-pedestrian as you couldn't really walk anywhere but we did get to the millenium centre eventually and we also went to the Doctor Who exhibition which was AWESOME. A couple of photos to leave on, I guess.

I do try!

Anywho, after being to London, I have started to learn an effect to my works. See, my camera can take black and white photos much like any other camera you can buy and I've also seen quite a few black and white photos whilst looking around websites like Flickr. They seem to send some kind of good emotion and make pictures stand out really well. I would like some critiques in the comments, if you don't mind.
This last one is a personal favourite of mine, I must admit. The image is of my parents and my mother is planning to get it professionally printed. I feel so happy about that. I also have the free prints that came with my camera to use and I must pick the best ones really soon.captincrochttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843772788115330713noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5036809974764215030.post-10299682270820608592010-08-31T15:01:00.000+01:002010-08-31T15:01:33.909+01:00The Gallery: One day in AugustSo, back to the amazing world of The Gallary which I try to do every week but of course, I often fail at that. So a couple of days ago was the bank holiday weekend for those living in England and Wales and it rocked. This week's topic is to head into the spontaneous and just take a photo of something on Sunday 29th August and report back with it and boy was it fun. After seeing a new building on the news, my father insisted on going to London for his day off, conveniently on the 29th. Yippie.
However, I do not think that this is the case. Sure making a game is easy enough but these days it's more of a publishing issue; where do you put it now? ONM seem to be adamant that the online market of WiiWare and DSiWare are going to be the best place for starting developers who are quite short of change to publish their work to the the world. This is simply not the case at this moment in time.

Nintendo don't seem to like people being able to develop games for the DSi or Wii for their online stores. Unless you have the ability to develop to an 'excellent' standard, you run a software business, and you have at least $10,000 to spend, you're pretty much screwed. It's quite unfortunate that they don't open up basic development tools to people to at least practise. Now, REAL bedroom coders would use the likes of Apple's development tools to create games for their slowly growing iPod Touch users considering the basic accounts for developers are free even those so you can publish and I think more starting developers will be more willing to start off with that rather than head towards the likes of DSiWare and WiiWare.
Well, at least for now.captincrochttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02843772788115330713noreply@blogger.com0
