The return of Bedroom Coders?

I was reading an article in the Official Nintendo Magazine saying that there may be a return of bedroom coders, people who program games for the purpose of learning or even to spending time on something. However, I do not think that this is the case. Sure making a game is easy enough but these days it's more of a publishing issue; where do you put it now? ONM seem to be adamant that the online market of WiiWare and DSiWare are going to be the best place for starting developers who are quite short of change to publish their work to the the world. This is simply not the case at this moment in time.

Nintendo don't seem to like people being able to develop games for the DSi or Wii for their online stores. Unless you have the ability to develop to an 'excellent' standard, you run a software business, and you have at least $10,000 to spend, you're pretty much screwed. It's quite unfortunate that they don't open up basic development tools to people to at least practise. Now, REAL bedroom coders would use the likes of Apple's development tools to create games for their slowly growing iPod Touch users considering the basic accounts for developers are free even those so you can publish and I think more starting developers will be more willing to start off with that rather than head towards the likes of DSiWare and WiiWare.
Well, at least for now.

Nerdy dictionary corner!

A quick post before I jet off to Lanazarote:

If you don't know me, you'll not know about my massive love for Swedish things and the culture of Sweden. Jag talar Svenska inte but I just love the language and accent and I've impressed a couple of people with my nerdish knowledge of Sweden and while I don't live there or ever seen the place, it's one of my favourite countries (apart from Japan but that's a given).

Du gamla, Du fria, Du fjällhöga nord!

Whilst reading and researching about the culture, I learned that Swedes have a massive love for coffee which made me want to pack my bags and leave but it got EVEN BETTER; they have special times for coffee breaks (which they call fika; translating as "to drink coffee") during the day which even the government precipitate. I had never knew that before and it just wants me to edge closer and closer to living in Sweden for a couple of years or so. Or at least puts it at one of the places I really would love to visit.
